Ideas for Using Mr. Dorey's Algebra Handbook
Previewing a new topic.
At the start of class, consider having students read from their Algebra Handbook about the topic of the day. This is a great opportunity for students to gain experience reading mathematics and developing their own understanding about a new topic. This can easily be done in the one to two minutes that the teacher spends checking homework. Follow up by asking students to take 30 seconds to summarize what they learned with a partner and then spring into the day's lesson.
Examine a problem and attempt one independently.
Ask students to examine a problem and then give them one to try independently. This can be a new concept or one that was learned previously.
